San Antonio Peace Corps Volunteer's MASCOT Project in Ukraine
Julieann Massey, 3rd year PCV in the Ukraine and graduate of Brackenridge High School, has sent a request for project funding assistance. This year, Julieann is co-directing a MASCOT camp, which will build on the previous year's MASCOT foundation. The camp is a deeply amazing event for both staff and campers, as the idea is that through creativity, new possibilities in Ukraine can easily arise. Julieann is currently looking for donations to fulfill the partnership grant. The camp is designed to use creative arts to inspire civic leadership and cultivate international partnership. More information about the camp can be found here: www.iocoalition.org/MASCOT-2011-Ukraine.php.

San Antonio Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala
Rebecca Greiff is a Peace Corps Volunteer from San Antonio currently serving as a preventive health technician in the village of Nank'ultaq', in the remote highlands of northern Guatemala. The planned projects for the community are relatively low cost for Americans, but prohibitively expensive for these families. The Healthy Homes construction projects provide the opportunity for every family in this community to directly remedy the unsanitary conditions of their homes. These projects were selected through personal discussions with families in their homes and then approved by the community. Improved wood-burning stoves will improve indoor air quality and drastically reduce toxic smoke contamination, while cement floors will eliminate an environment for the growth and spread of bacteria and promote overall cleanliness.
Rebecca's project is sponsored by Friends of Guatemala, and accepts donations by check or Paypal. Please check out the project web site at:
You may also email Rebecca for more information at rebecca.greiff@gmail.com.

50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps   March 1, 1961-2011
We celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps with a Pot Luck Dinner on Tuesday, March 1st, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. RPCV's brought dishes typical of their country of service as well as items to display. About 150 people attended, including RPCV's and their families, future PCV's, and exchange students from Central America who had participated in our Asian Fair food booth. A slide show of RPCV photos was on display, and several members brought their scrap books, taking us back to the earliest days of our RPCV group. Check back soon for photos of the event. On Tuesday, March 2, Mayor Julián Castro of San Antonio issued a proclamation honoring the Peace Corps and all those who have served. View the Proclamation  | Event Photos
